David Wesley Birch

January 7, 1948 ~ January 7, 2022 (age 74)


David Wesley Birch, son of Wesley and Arleen (Grummert) was born on January 7, 1948, at Beatrice NE. David was baptized in Plymouth NE and was confirmed at Messiah Lutheran in Grand Island NE. He attended Elementary school in Beatrice. In 1961 he moved with his family to Grand Island NE where he attended Barr Junior High and Grand Island Senior High School, graduating in 1966. He furthered his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln NE, graduating with a BS degree in 1970. Upon graduation he went into the Officer Training program with the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton CA, Camp Levine NC, Paris Island SC and did overseas duty at Okinawa Japan. He left the USM in 1979 doing special duty with the Marine Guards from 1979 - 1983. After leaving the Guards, he worked at the Coast-to-Coast Store, owned by his sister and brother-in-law, in Wayne NE for one year. He then moved to Lincoln NE where he worked for Century Real Estate for 10 years. He also had his own home business for 11 years. After retiring from these businesses, he drove a taxi for several years. 

David enjoyed Bible Studies with friends (the four D's), reading, computer fun and time with special friends. At the time of his death, David attended Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln NE. 

David is survived by his sister, Leslie Hausmann and brother-in-law, Jack. He is also survived by his nephew Jeffery (Tara) Hausmann of Windsor CO and their children, Ashley Hausmann of Houston TX, Aaron Hausmann (fiancé, Eryn Thomas) of Omaha NE and Kyle Edwards of Omaha NE. He is also survived by his nephew Kevin (Molly) Hausmann and their children, Dax and Ramsay Hausmann of Parker CO as well as many cousins. 

David was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Birch in 1947, his mother, Arleen (Grummert, Birch) Maddocks in 2001, his step-father, Ralph Maddocks, in 1968, his nephew, Aaron Michael Hausmann in 1975 and his sister, Susan Maddocks in 2005.

David's burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
