Jack Koichi Gross

June 4, 1947 ~ July 10, 2022 (age 75)

Jack Koichi Gross, was born June 4, 1947 in Japan to Harold and Judy Hideko Gross. They all moved to the United States (Texas) after Harold’s military service obligation when Jack was 4. Jack could not speak English when they moved to Texas, but quickly learned. He attended school and graduated high school in Dickinson, TX. He then attended college at Sam Houston State University before becoming a welder.

On New Year’s Eve 2002, in Las Vegas, Jack and Kathy Oakley were united in marriage. Prior to this marriage, Jack had the following children: son Jack “Bo”, daughter Jennifer, and two step-children Shawn and Melissa. Jack welcomed Kathy’s children, Brock Chase and Katie Oakley, into the family after their marriage.

Jack loved to work, travel the world, weld, build and create things and then weld it all. He traveled the world welding with a specialty in hot tie-ins for over 45 years. When he was not working, he enjoyed flying planes (we all know he wasn’t the best aviator), fast cars, relaxing in his favorite chair, and spending time with family and his beloved Kathy.

Jack passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 at his home in Lincoln, Nebraska having reached the age of 75 years, and 1 month.

Jack is survived by his children: Jack H. Aunt Elaine Gross (Texas), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Jack is also survived by his and Kathy’s beloved Bengal Cats: Mochi and Meeka, and Lucy their Morkie.

Jack is predeceased by wife Kathy Gross, father Harold Gross, mother Judy Hideko Gross, step-mother Jerri Gross, grandmother Viola Gross, brother Bobby Gross, Uncle Eugene Gross and pets: Mingo, Lucy, and Bella.

Jack is to be cremated and his ashes joined with Kathy’s. Due to all friends and family being so dispersed, an online video memorial can be viewed at:, and Jack or Jennifer’s Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers or anything, donations can be sent to the funeral home (5849 Fremont Street Lincoln, NE 68507) to help cover expenses.
