James "Jim" Jarvis

January 8, 1958 ~ May 14, 2022 (age 64)

Obituary

James (Jim) Jarvis, 64, of Lincoln passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2022, at Bryan East Hospital. A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Sunday June 26th, 2022, at Lazlo’s in The Haymarket from 2pm-5pm.

Jim was born in Lincoln, NE on January 8th, 1958, to Dr. William Jack Jarvis and Mary Jane (Whitesell) Jarvis. Jim along with his younger brothers, Jon and Jay, grew up in the Jarvis family home on South 52nd Street. He met many of his lifelong friends in this neighborhood. After graduating from Lincoln East High School, Jim moved to Moss Beach, CA where he spent his days surfing, whale watching, eating at Sam’s Café, and exploring one his favorite cities, San Francisco.

In 1983 after returning to Lincoln for his father’s funeral he met his future wife, Katy Gerhart. They were married in 1985 and raised their two children at their family home on South 28th Street in Lincoln. Jim enjoyed sharing his love of boating, wakeboarding, and water skiing with his family. Many family vacations were spent at the lake where he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and our dog Chief.

Jim loved music and enjoyed sharing new music he found with anyone who would listen (sometimes to the anguish of his children). He also enjoyed cooking for loved ones.  Jim became fascinated with sports cars after watching James Bond movies as a child. In November of 2020, Jim and his daughter embarked on a cross country road trip from Seattle to Lincoln after purchasing his dream car, a BMW 335i.

Jim is survived by his wife Katy Jarvis, son Matt (Kay) Jarvis, daughter Kristen (Charlie) Leeper, brothers Jay (Trish) Jarvis, and Jon Jarvis. Preceded in death by his parents and godmother Adeline Schwimmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Houses of Hope or The Bridge.
