Janice was born February 17, 1939, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Nichols) Marcotte. She graduated from Northeast High School with the class of 1956. In 1967, Janice went to work for Bernie Hart as his secretary for the National Auctioneers Association and the National Auto Auction Association, this job allowed her to travel all 48 States. In 1977, Janice became a business partner and helped create the Nebraska Independent Auto Dealers Association, she truly enjoyed working with the auto dealers. That same year they opened Mer-Hart Furniture Mart. In 1996 Jan bought out Bernie's interest in Mer-Hart Furniture. In 2000 Bernie retired as Executive Director Of the NEIADA and Jan was moved from Assistant Director to Executive Director. She held that position till she retired in 2016 after 39 years with the Association. She was named Executive Director Emeritus until 2017 to give her the honor of 40 years of service to the Nebraska IADA. She was very proud of her 40 years with the NEIADA. Mer-Hart Furniture was closed in 2018 after 41 years, again that was important to her. Among her other accomplishments. Jan was inducted into the National Auto Auction Association Hall of Fame in 1989 in honor of her years of service to that association. She was the second woman inducted to the Hall of Fame of the NAAA. In 2006 she was awarded Executive of The Year by the Association Executive Council of the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association. Janice enjoyed polka dancing and caring for her cats.
