Josephine “Jo” or “JoJo” (Cropp) Bottcher
September 28, 1926 - February, 28th, 2022
On February, 28th, 2022, Josephine Bottcher, 95, got her wings and went to soar with her beloved, Harold, among the angels. Jo was a pioneering woman who met many challenges with the will of a warrior in her lifetime. With God’s grace, wisdom and love she conquered every life’s challenge head on.
Josephine was born on September 28, 1926, near Garfield City, NE. Her parents were Lewis Thomas Cropp and Rosetta (Wever) Cropp. She was the eighth child out of 11, six boys and five girls. In a household with little or no means but they had much love. At a young age she learned the value of hard work and keeping your family close.
She was married to Harold G. Bottcher of Talmage, NE, on February 24, 1945. To this union were born three children: Jim Dean, Vickie Jo, and Gina Lynn. In the beginning they farmed near Syracuse, NE, then moved to North Platte and finally settled in Lincoln, NE, in 1957.
She put her beloved, Harold, into God’s hands on December 27, 1972. By the grace of God, she was offered a job at Calvary Lutheran Schools as their lunch cook within weeks of his death. With the guidance of her Lord, she made a career working for the Lutheran schools in Lincoln as the manager of the lunchroom program at Calvery and Messiah Lutheran. After 20 years, she retired in 1992.
After retirement, Jo volunteered at the Nebraska State Capital at the information booth. She enjoyed helping people trying to find their way through the capital. She loved meeting all our governmental dignitaries and the visitors of our state capital.
While working and raising her family, she went to college at the University of Nebraska and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and management. She graduated in 1981.
Jo was an active member of Northeast United Church of Christ since 1963. She lovingly served her church in all of God’s work that needed to be done. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Wedding receptions, Funeral Lunch coordinator. She served on many of the church boards: Diaconate Trustees, Women’s Fellowship, Music and Stewardship. She helped cook and serve many meals at Northeast UCC. She chaired the Memorial Committee for many years. She enjoyed volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels. She was a good and faithful servant.
In her spare time, she enjoyed camping and traveling. She helped her brother-in-law with the “Jolly Troopers” tour bus. They traveled to many destinations across the United State including a trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City.
But mostly she loved spending time with her family. She made sure she was at everyone’s birthday, wedding, anniversary, graduation, all of life’s special occasions! She made sure that when you left you received a hug and kiss to last until you met again. Then when you said, “I love you!” she would answer “I love you more!”
