Ronald Ray Tschetter, 78, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Carpenter, SD, went to his heavenly home on Monday, June 14, 2021.
Ronald Ray Tschetter, also known as Ron or Ronnie, was born on July 14, 1942, to Jacob (Jake) J. and Elizabeth (Betty) Tschetter in Huron, SD. He grew up 27 miles northeast of Huron where he farmed with his dad. When his dad retired, he took over the family farm.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior when he was nine years old in VBS. He was baptized in high school and became a member of Emmanuel Mennonite church, later transferring his membership to Prairie Bible church (formerly Hutterthal Mennonite church) after he was married.
He went to elementary school at Ashgrove country school. His freshman year of high school was spent at Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, SD. He finished his high school years in Doland, SD, graduating in 1960. He pursued a two-year degree in auto mechanics at Springfield Trade school in Springfield, SD.
On July 1, 1967, he married Tamera Hofer. God blessed them with two daughters, Richel and Mindy. He enjoyed farming the land God gave him. He was able to repair all his machinery until they became too automated. In their home he was “Mr. Fix It.” He and Glen Palmquist came up with the idea of changing a chisel plow into a coulter machine. They were able to market this invention and God blessed this endeavor immensely. Going to his daughter’s basketball games, concerts, and plays and later his grandchildren’s activities gave him great joy.
He spent many hours at Byron Bible Camp moving dirt which helped make the camp look like it does today. Camp was important to him because that is where kids and young people would learn about Jesus and had opportunities to accept Him as their personal Savior.
While attending Prairie Bible Church he served on the church board, as a Sunday school teacher, and helped on church workdays. He went on a mission trip with farmers to Albania. Ron and Tamera spent time at JAARs in North Carolina and California where Ron helped with building projects.
Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tamera Tschetter, daughters Richel (Brian) Weiss of Grand Forks, ND and Mindy (Brent) Bednar of Roca, NE; grandchildren Miranda, Mikayla, and Megan Weiss and Embrie and Lewis Bednar; one sister Carma (Jon) Zarneke of Meridian, ID and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Betty Tschetter.
A private burial will be held Monday, June 21, 2021, at 10am at the Hickman Cemetery in Hickman, NE. The memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 1:30pm at Prairie Bible church, rural Carpenter, SD. A lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Byron Bible Camp or James Valley Christian School.
